The classic K-70 mechanical press features an overdriven crankshaft design with an Ortlinghaus (aka Orrtech) hydraulic clutch & brake. The press is capable of cutting up to a 3" OD x 0.156" wall low carbon steel tube using an industry standard #3 single-blade dieset.
Our closed-loop die accelerator incorporates a servo motor driven timing belt arrangement for +/-0.040" length control.
Friction saws are best for heavy-wall cutting applications where fast cuts are needed. As an added benefit, friction saw blades are not affected by the internal scarf found on the inside of OCTG pipe products making them an excellent choice for this industry. Rafter friction saws are manufactured by TAKECO (South Korea) and are available in 5-1/2" OD and 8-5/8" OD versions. Standard features include AC motor spindle drive, rack-and-pinion carriage drive, hydraulic clamping, and hydraulic variable-speed blade feed. Rafter adds a closed-loop length controller with "floating home" feature using US sourced components.
Other Cutoff Machines
Rafter has also built other styles of flying cutoffs for specialty applications. These include abrasive saws and rotary tool cutoffs. We also work with other manufacturers of flying cutoffs to integrate their machines into a tube or pipe mill line.
