Strongsville, Ohio, USA, May 1, 2019 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped four (4) RT-1500 laser weld squeeze boxes to a major North American automotive parts supplier. The boxes incorporate a 14-roll design that securely holds the HSLA profile shape for optimum laser welding. The boxes are to be installed on a pair of Rafter RF-1500S-28 rollforming mills supplied to the same customer some years ago.

Strongsville, Ohio, USA, April 9, 2019 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped twelve (12) RT-2500 Heavy-Duty Idle Side Roll Stands to a North American tube producer. The idlers will replace the original sizing & reshaping units on multiple rafts supplied by the company dating back to 1997. The new design employs a geared, push-on-center design making them more robust and easier to adjust. Other features include flip-top retainers, bolt-in roll shafts, and a built-in centering bar.

Strongsville, Ohio, USA, February 18, 2019 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped an RT-4000 HFI weld squeeze box to a major North American DOM tube producer. The new 4-roll design continues with the company's preference for "dead spindle" weld roll shafts whereby the bearings are pressed within the roll tools. This unit replaces an old 4-roll design that had "live" spindles for the two lower rolls. The bearings for these spindles had become very expensive and time consuming to replace. Having the bearings now in the rolls allows for frequent inspection and easy replacement when necessary.
The new design includes a removable faceplate assembly that allows for offline changeover of the roll tools while laying the assembly flat in a horizontal orientation. This method is much easier than on the mill in an upright or vertical orientation. Powered shot pins secure the faceplate assembly and allow for a quick engagement without the use of hand tools.
In addition, all roll adjustments are accessible from the operator's side of the machine. The heavy-duty construction will accomodate tubes up to 3.500" OD x 0.300" wall thickness x 75 KSI material yield strength.

2-roll HFI weld squeeze box to a North American tube producer. The weld box is a retrofit to an existing Yoder M-1-1/2 tube mill that is being converted from ERW to HFI welding. The product mix on this mill is perfect for a simple 2-roll solution.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, January 22, 2019 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped a
RT-3000S/3500S high-speed HSS tube mill to a major North American tube producer. The mill is capable of making 2-1/2" square x 0.250" wall HSS tube at 400 FPM and lighter gauges up to 600 FPM. The mill is rafted for quick-changeover and includes an automatic universal drive shaft handling system. The reshaping section includes heavy-duty RT-3500S driven and idle side roll stands. A double-sided turkshead straightener with 2-axis remote adjustment with position feedback allows the operator to make straightness corrections from the downstream cutoff station. Offline raft changeover tables were included. An integrated rolling trolley with hydraulic push/pull device makes for quick and easy handling of the outboard roll stand housings.
UPDATE May 17, 2019: Line commissioning began this week and the mill performed as expected.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, November 11, 2018 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has supplied a retrofit
RT-2500S 2-roll HFI weld squeeze box to a major North American mechanical tubing producer. A new design was required to replace an inadequate 2-roll design from another supplier while still utilizing the existing roll tooling. The weld box is sized for up to 4.500" OD x 0.160" wall HSLA tube. It is significantly more robust than the unit it replaced. Operator feedback on the new unit has been very positive.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, July 9, 2018 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has introduced a new proactive machine maintenance service program for tube mill and roll forming equipment owners. The program is designed to provide regularly scheduled service to solve common maintenance problems often found on mill equipment. It establishes an annual service agreement that includes monthly service visits by a qualified service technician at a discounted service rate.
The discounted service rate applies to all service related visits. The agreement can be tailored to meet the customer's needs and additional days are available at the discounted rate.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, March 30, 2018 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped an RT-3000 Single-Tool HFI Weld Bead Upset Trimmer with Bead Winder to a North American custom roll form parts producer. The equipment includes a cam actuated quick-lift feature to raise and lower the trimming tool automatically when the mill stops or manually when a coil end joint passes underneath. The use of a cam motion locks the tool in the down position mechanically. It also returns the tool to the preset trimming position automatically after it has been raised. The lower support roll tool was contoured to match the direct-welded profile section.
The Bead Winder is mounted to the top surface of the trimmer. It includes a variable speed motor with a slip clutch mechanism for optimum tension control. This feature greatly reduces bead breakage during winding. A pneumatic push-off mechanism breaks the cooled bundle free of the winder tines for easy disposal.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, February 16, 2018 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped an RT-4000S single-sided turkshead straightener with 2-axis motorized adjustments to a major North American heavy-wall tube producer. The turkshead is capable of straightening up to 3.500" OD x 0.300" wall (88.9mm OD x 7.6mm wall) tubing. It includes motorized up/down and left/right adjustment so that tube straightness can be controlled from a remote downstream position using a simple joystick device. Linear displacement transducers (LDTs) indicate movement and position for optimum straightness control on the included remote operator's console.
The turkshead includes a removable faceplate design that allows for the roll tooling to be exchanged offline while laying down. A second faceplate was included for enhanced quick-change capabilities.

The unique heavy-duty design has successfully replaced scroll-chuck and other various designs because of its ability to handle both heavier wall thickness and/or high strength, low alloy (HSLA) steels.
Strongsville, Ohio, USA, December 28, 2017 – Rafter Equipment Corporation has shipped a pair of RT-2500S Driven Reshaping Roll Stands to a major North American stainless steel tube manufacturer. The equipment was the final piece of a series of mill upgrades the customer used reconfigure an old TIG welded mill into a new HFI welded mechanical tube mill. The stands will reshape round tubing formed with a bottom-of-tube constant datum into equivalent squares & rectangles with a constant centerline datum. The maximum reshaped tube will be 2½” square x 0.135” wall thickness.
The stands represent a new design with increased robustness and easier setup and operation. The company worked with the customer to determine what improvements could be made over the previous design while still keeping within the original budget.
